Academic Success
|
[Workshop Two]
What factors are behind the Chinese community's success in Education? What challenges does this success present to our children, and who do we address those challenges? How can we ensure even greater success for our children?
Delegates Comments: The group's overwhelming response was that Chinese parents/families
are the driving force behind the community's academic success. However Chinese parents' insistence on academic excellence from their children can be a double-edged sword.
High achievements in education can lead to good careers and financial wealth. On the other hand it
can also cause the younger generation unbearable pressure to fit the 'academic stereotype'.
Suggestions on how to tackle such challenges include encouraging children to take up more leisure activities and/or volunteering at an early age to give them a wider perspective in education.
