Cultural Integrity
|
Suzannah Kwok, a British-born Chinese, is a consultant for London Chinatown Chinese Association and deputy festival director for 2006 and 2007 London Chinese New Year celebrations.
When Ms Kwok asked what made her uniquely Chinese, she found identity came from family, the Chinese community, watching Chinese movies/TV and celebrating events such as Mid Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year.
Ms Kwok believes the latter provides the best opportunity for people of all races to experience Chinese culture at its fullest – from food to fireworks, dragons and lion dance, contemporary and traditional arts.
At the heart of these celebrations is the desire to pass cultural values across generations and in doing so, keep a strong sense of Chinese identity and culture.
