Simon Heale, a leading figure in international finance, former chief executive of the London Metal Exchange, was on hand to give an insightful non-Chinese perspective.
Heale praised the community for its strength and great success in the fields of commerce but said it must also 'seize every opportunity' to become more visible in other areas.
One such opportunity is China Now, a nation-wide festival which will run from the 2008 Chinese New Year to the Beijing Olympic Games. As the event's organiser, Heale extended an invitation - and challenge - to all members of the Chinese community to be active participants in the six-month-long celebration.
China Now will cover the fields of art, design and culture, education, technology, business, lifestyle and sport.
