Challenges Ahead
There is no doubt the Chinese community has made remarkable achievements since its first settlement in the UK in the early 19th century.

The Chinese in Britain can stand proud for its success in education, commerce and sustaining an unshakeable sense of identity and culture.

However the main force behind the success – the focus on the family unit – can remove the Chinese from not only British society but also away from their wider Chinese community.

This year's National Conference reaffirmed the community's right to celebrate its strengths but equally, it must look at weaknesses and effect change.

Limitations have been identified, new challenges set and opportunities abound. The next step for the Chinese in Britain is to simply join in.
