Save Oriental City Campaign

LISTEN TO THE FULL PODCAST
The Chinese community is applying for a judicial review to save their favourite shopping
complex, Oriental City in Colindale, London.
Save Oriental City Campaign
suffered a major blow when it failed to win central government backing;
Secretary of State Ruth Kelly
announced she would not challenge the new owner's plan to knock down the centre and build flats and a
superstore.
Oriental City not only offers a range of South East Asian products but
is also a focal point for the community, often hosting events which
promote the cultural identity of many different countries.
Around a thousand Chinese families face uncertain futures as they will be forced to relocate or close their businesses during the development,
expected to take at least two years.
Only the High Courts and the support of the general public can save the Oriental City campaign.
