DECLARATION OF RESULTS

It has been a nerve wrecking night and it was disappointing for the team that we were not able to win the first European seat for young people

We are however happy to report that we come second among the independent candidates and Steven's votes is also above two other parties on the ballot paper.

It is a great record for a 19 year old and the campaign team is very proud of his achievement.

Steven vows to continue his work in politics and will be making further announcements on his plans. He will also be publishing a report on his experience and hope to help other people who has been inspired to take part in politics.

Thank you again for all your support for the campaign.

We hope you will continue to support us in reaching our goal and securing real representation for the ordinary public in all level of the political system, for young people, elderly people, and people from different cultures and backgrounds.

Question U Ask....

Why are you standing for the European Parliament?
I believe it is time for the local people of London to have their voices heard in politics. For too long, we, the ordinary public are known as the silent majority and we allow politicians to make decisions for us; decisions which have long term impact on our future. However, there are major flaws in the system: problems with MP expenses, MEP allowance, the financial crisis, rising crime rate etc, yet no one is standing up to take responsibility.

The public are frustrated with the way things are, but when we start to point the finger at others, our remaining three fingers point back at us. What we need is a new start with solutions from the combined voices of real people in London, that's YOU. We can, and must take collective responsibility for decisions that affect our future. This is why I am standing.

I am determined to achieve true representation for the younger generation, older people, working families, and the many different cultures that make up our great city. I want Europe to work for us. It won't be easy but I hope by making this first step, more people will join me. Let's vote on June 4th and shape our future together

Are you not too young to stand?
Young people are an important part of our society. We want to contribute with our energy, drive and ideals. I can offer a real alternative to the tired choice of politicians who have been tainted by scandals and compromised by red tape and bureaucracy. My age allows me to bridge the divide that politicians have with the youth of today. Many people from my generation are marginalised and feel that our voices have been unheard. I can understand this. My actions will encourage their interest and participation in how their country and Europe is run.

Where in London do you live and what do you love most about London?
I live in Waltham Forest in north-east London. I love London for its magnificent mix of different cultures and communities, traditional treasures and modern ideas. I believe this is the driving force behind the current revival of Brit music and fashion. It is one of the most cosmopolitan places in the world and Londoners are among the most welcoming, compassionate, open-minded and tolerant people.

What difference do you feel you can make?
With your support, I want to be your voice in Europe. Other politicians will need to take note of what we, as a community, have to say. I also hope that my work will encourage more people from our community here in London to take a closer interest in politics, to vote and even to stand in future elections.

Who is your biggest Political influence?
There are many. Winston Churchill for his courage, Ramon Magsaysay for his integrity, Nelson Mandela for his fight against apartheid, Mahatma Gandhi for his non-violent approach and Dr SunYat Sen for his democratic ideal, and of course president Obama for engaging the public in politics.

What most annoys you about Politics?
Politicians forgetting who put them there; ignoring the need of people and taking advantage of their status, the Expenses Scandal in the UK is a clear indication of how far some politicians have betrayed our trust - the ordinary public. The wastage and the bureaucracy in the EU is something I will focus on if I am elected.

What is your strongest characteristic…and worst trait?
I am passionate, hardworking and I have a strong empathy with people. I am always positive and am able to work with people to look for common goals. My worse trait is that my compassionate nature can mean I sometimes take on too many problems on behalf of others. I will therefore focus first on my main campaign objectives if I get elected.

What are your views on the recent MP expenses scandal?
All political parties need to put their house in order as a first priority. They should publish all the expenses immediately and not wait until they have to drag out of them. People should be able to examine each and every expense claim on the internet and an independent body should be set up to examine any complaints. Any MP found to be abusing the system should be required to step down. The police must be called in to examine any alleged wrong doing. No one should be above the law. Without the confidence of the people, our democracy cannot function. We need to make sure extreme parties such as BNP do not benefit from the scandal.

I read in the London Papers that you are going to donate 50% of your MEP's salary to charity and community projects, is this true?
There are many worthwhile causes in London and I think they deserve this money a lot more than us, the politicians. I hope my pledge will help to put pressure on other MEPs to cut down on the excesses. I will set up a panel made up of real Londoners and they can help decide how and where the donations should be spent. I hope this will be one way to start engaging the general public in politics.

Why stand now and not wait until after university?
There will always be something else to do in life, but the election will not wait for me and we all need to make a choice. I want more representation for people of all ages, and as a 19 year old, I will be more effective in making real representation for the youth. I want to encourage everyone, young or old, that it is not too early or late to actively participate in our democracy. The right to vote is a privilege and we should not take it for granted.

Why are you not on TV telling us about your campaign?
The UK media coverage for this Election is really disappointing. Only the main parties have been given access to election broadcast. The large number of people in London also means the cost of sending leaflets to every home is quite inhibitive to an independent candidate like me. I have been going out and canvassing everyday and use the internet extensively to spread my message. I hope enough of you will give me your support and spread my message. Let's make history together!
